“Like you, I believe that spending and tax cut decisions must be both fiscally responsible and fair to our working families. I believe that fiscal responsibility is the way to create prosperity for Texas and secure the American Dream for our children and grandchildren. By working together we can make theirs the most prosperous generation of all time by working together now to secure that future.”
“I'm Raul Torres and with your vote I’ll continue working to make sure government focuses on what matters most to you and your family.”
“This session there seemed to be a big difference between what leadership wanted and what our community in South Texas needed. I did what was right for my community and this will continue to be my priority as your State Representative.”
When asked if he would vote against his leadership on certain issues, Torres answered, “I believe I will.”
“I don’t like the budget bill, period. I wish we had a better, a different-looking bill, especially for our community. If I could make it happen, I would.”
“Too many politicians want Texas to be just like Washington. They believe that continued spending is the answer to all of our problems. I disagree and they don’t get it. You deserve a government that is more efficient and more effective. A government that is accountable, responsible and, delivers measureable results. Texas needs common sense leadership that will listen to you. Leaders, who will stand for conservative values, not sacrifice them.”
“For too long, the total amount of state dollars invested in South Texas has been much less that those invested elsewhere in Texas. We are unique. We have higher level of Hispanics population, higher number of impoverished families, and more per capita students that rely on state aid.”
As the grandson of Mexican immigrants I know what it means to live with less. “That is why we cannot and must not allow Texas to fail or to become like many other states.”
“The needs of my district come before the needs of the state leaders. I am not beholden to anybody: no party, no leader, other than my family, the constituents of my area, and for me, to God. I’m going to be held accountable by him. These are the people that I look forward to answer to.”
“The decision you face in the 2012 election is who will create a state budget that will set clear priorities and serve as a blueprint for improving the future of all Texans. A budget that will help create jobs, educate our children, keep taxes low, and continue to protect small businesses and families from unnecessary risks, taxes, and regulations. The stakes are extremely high in 2012.”
